Donald Trump Cageside at UFC 290

07/06/23 – 07/12/23

What’s up MMA fans? It’s been another busy week in the world of Mixed Martial Arts, and we’re not done yet.

With UFC 290 hosting a whole bunch of celebs, including Donald Trump, Bo Nickal proving why he’s such an in-demand fighter, a strong chance of McGregor vs Chandler still happening this year, and GSP endorsing Elon Musk in the ‘Battle of the Billionaires’, there’s plenty to sink our teeth into.

Donald Trump Cageside at UFC 290

UFC 290 providing a number of surprises and played host to plenty of celebrity guests. Perhaps the name most people were talking about following the event however, was non-other than former US president, Donald J. Trump.

This isn’t the first UFC event that ‘The Donald’ has appeared at however, as he appeared back at UFC 264 and UFC 287. Trump is a big fan of the UFC and regularly speaks to Dana White about MMA.

Considering the year he’s had thus far, this likely won’t be the last time we talk about ‘The Donald’ before the end of the year.

Bo Nickal Dominates at UFC 290

Bo Nickal is one of the hottest UFC middleweight super prospects in the organization at the moment, and his performance at UFC 290 is proof of why that is.

Taking on Val Woodburn, who was brought in as a last-second replacement, Nickal picked up the ‘dub’ in just 38 seconds.

Renowned for his amateur wrestling ability, it was his striking that finished off Woodburn, hitting him with a crazy uppercut to floor him, before following up with a single strike on the ground before the referee stepped in.

Remember the name ‘Bo Nickal’ because you’ll be hearing it a lot more in the UFC sooner rather than later.

Dana White says McGregor vs Chandler Can Still Happen in 2023

It wouldn’t be a UFC news article without mentioning Conor McGregor at least once, so here is your weekly Conor fix.

Ever since his horrific injury, people were wondering whether Conor McGregor would ever fight again. After rehabbing, packing on the muscle, getting back to training, and becoming a coach on The Ultimate Fighter, it became clear that there was more than a chance that he would.

After getting physical on last week’s episode of TUF, talk of Conor McGregor taking on Michael Chandler hotted up. USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) however, could be the problem. Rules state that fighters enter the testing pool for at least six months before fighting. Since McGregor broke his ankle however, he has been absent.

Dana White however, recently stated that there is 100% a chance that the fight will happen this year, despite Conor not yet entering the testing pool (not to our knowledge at least). How the fight could happen in 2023 then, is anybody’s guess. To quote Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber however ‘so you’re saying there’s a chance’?

GSP Endorses Elon Musk

Finally, after a training session with Elon Musk, UFC legend Georges St-Pierre has sang the praises of the controversial billionaire owner of Twitter.

GSP stated that Musk was ‘stronger than the average man’ and that he was ‘very tough’.

So, if the fight happens, it’ll be strength vs Jiu-Jitsu. Who wins? Well, that’s anybody’s guess. It’ll be interesting to say the least.
